Uploading Files to the AI-SIG Web Site

If you simply want to upload an image for viewing by other group members, you should use the Photo Gallery system instead of this general-purpose file upload mechanism.  Close this page and click on the appropriate link in the “Image Library” section of the home page.  Assuming you have a userid/password for this area of the site, you can upload your image along with its associated information.  If you don’t have a userid and password or you have forgotten it, contact me at bw_msg01 at earthlink dot net.

If you want to upload some other type of file – a spreadsheet or a PowerPoint presentation for example – you will also need a userid and password (see above).  Once you have logged on successfully, you will see a form asking you for certain information.  This includes your last name, a short description of the file you are uploading, and the source file name.   To avoid problems, please don’t use filenames with embedded spaces or other special characters – try using the underscore character (‘_’) instead of a space, for example.  The host server is running a Unix variant, and the file naming conventions are different than those of Windows.  Clicking on the ‘Send’ button will start the file upload, and you’ll see the “progress wheel” spinning.  After the file has been uploaded, you’ll be shown a new form giving you the option to return to the home page, upload another file, or view all the files in the shared file area.  For security reasons, file types are limited to the following:

Images: gif, jpg, bmp, tif, tiff   (size limit of 4000 x 3000 pixels)

Documents: doc, txt, rtf, pdf, xml, xls, ppt, pps

Other: zip, wav, mp3, mpg, mpeg

If you find you need to upload a different type of file, please contact me at the above e-mail address.  The current limit on file size is set at 40MB.
